Grown in South India, this variety has firm grains that never stick together, and on their own they have a sweet-earthy taste. We add ground turmeric and cumin seeds for a subtly aromatic flavor and golden hue that makes this rice an ideal accompaniment to Indian food, or goes beautifully with any cuisine.
WHAT IS SUREKHA RICE? Surekha (pronounced sir-RAY-ka) is nutritionally closer to brown rice than white rice because of the ancient processing technique of 'parboiling'. After being harvested, the grains get steamed in their husks (not done to conventional rice's) to lock in nutrients and fiber. The process also hardens the grains, so they stay firm and separate.
